Eight Prayers Glorifying Srimati Radharani

 

TEXT 1

 

disi disi racayantim sascaran-netra-laksmi-

        vilasita-khuralibhih khasjaritasya khelam

hrdaya-madhupa-mallim ballavadhisa-sunor

        akhila-guna-gabhiram radhikam arcayami

 

disi disi--in all directions; racayantim--doing; sascaran--moving; netra--of the eyes; laksmi---splendor; vilasita--splendid; khuralibhih--with actions; khasjaritasya--of a khasjana bird; khelam--pastimes; hrdaya--heart; madhupa--bee; mallim--jasmine flower; ballavadhisa--of the king of the gopas; sunor--of the son; akhila--all; guna--virtues; gabhiram--deep; radhikam--Sri mati Radhika; arcayami--I worship.

 

I worship Sri Radhika, who, with the splendid beauty of Her restless eyes, plays like a khasjana bird turning in every direction, who is the malli flower that attracts the bumblebee of the prince of Vraja's heart, and who is deeply filled with all transcendental virtues.

pitur iha vrsabhanor anvayaya-prasastim

        jagati kila samaste susthu vistarayantim

vraja-nrpati-kumaram khelayantim sakhibhih

        surabhini nija-kunde radhikam arcayami

 

pitur--of Her father; iha--here; vrsabhanor--King Vrsabhanu; anvayaya--of the family; prasastim--glory; jagati--in the world; kila--indeed; samaste--all; susthu--indeed; vistarayantim--spreading; vraja-nrpati-kumaram--the prince of Vraja; khelayantim--playing; sakhibhih--with friends; surabhini--fragrant; nija--in her own; kunde--lake.

 

I worship Sri Radhika, who spreads throughout the world the fame of the dynasty of Her father, King Vrsabhanu, and who, accompanied by Her friends, plays in Her own fragrant lake with the prince of Vraja.

sarad-upacita-raka-kaumudi-natha-kirti-

        prakara-damana-diksa-daksina-smera-vaktram

natad-aghabhid-apangottunitananga-rangam

        kalita-ruci-tarangam radhikam arcayami

 

sarad--in autumn; upacita--increased; raka--of the full moon; kaumudi--the moonlight; natha--of the Lord; kirti--glory; prakara--great; damana--overpowering; diksa--beginning; daksina--expert; smera--smiling; vaktram--face; natad--dancing; aghabhid--Lord Krsna, the killer of Aghasura; apanga--sidelong glances; uttunita--great; ananga--Cupid; rangam--dancing arena; kalita--manifested; ruci--splendor; tarangam--waves. etc.

 

I worship Sri Radhika, whose smiling face expertly eclipses the glory of the autumn moon, who is flooded with waves of beauty, and who, aroused by the dancing sidelong glances of Lord Krsna, has become Cupid's dancing arena.

vividha-kusuma-vrndotphulla-dhammilla-dhati-

        vighatita-mada-ghurnat-keki-piccha-prasastim

madhuripu-mukha-bimbodgirna-tambula-raga-

        sphurad-amala-kapolam radhikam arcayami

 

vividha--various; kusuma--flowers; Vrnda--hosts; utphulla--blossoming; dhammilla--decorated braided hair; dhati--violently attacked; vighatita--broken; mada--with joy; ghurnat--prancing; keki--of a peacock; piccha--feathers; prasastim--glory; madhuripu--of Lord Krsna; mukha--the mouth; bimba--bimba fruit; udgirna--emanated; tambula--betelnuts; raga--red; sphurad--manifested; amala--splendid; kapolam--cheeks. etc.

 

I worship Sri Radhika, whose braided hair, decorated with many kinds of blossoming flowers, has violently attacked and broken the fame of the tails of the jubilantly dancing peacocks, and whose splendid white cheek is marked with a spot of red betelnut from Lord Krsna's bimba*-fruit mouth.

 

*The bibma is the cherry and refers to the color of His lips.

amalina-lalitantah-sneha-siktantarangam

        akhila-vidha-visakha-sakhya-vikhyata-silam

sphurad-aghabhid-anargha-prema-manikya-petim

        dhrta-madhura-vinodam radhikam arcayami

 

amalina--splendid; lalita--of Lalita; antah--in the heart; sneha--love; sikta--sprinkled; antarangam--in the heart; akhila--all; vidha--kinds; visakha--of Visakha; sakhya--friendship; vikhyata--famous; silam--character; sphurad--manifesting; aghabhid--Lord Krsna; anargha--priceless; prema--love; manikya--of rubies; petim--treasure chest; dhrta--manifesting; madhura--sweetness; vinodam--pastimes.

 

I worship Sri Radhika, whose heart is sprinkled with pure love for Lalita, who is famous for performing all kinds of friendly activities for Visakha's sake, who is a treasure chest of the priceless rubies of pure love for Lord Krsna, and who is very sweet and playful.

atula-mahasi vrndaranya-rajye 'bhisiktam

        nikhila-samaya-bhartuh karttikasyadhidevim

aparimita-mukunda-preyasi-vrnda-mukhyam

        jagad-agha-hara-kirtim radhikam arcayami

 

atula--peerless; mahasi--in glory; Vrndaranya-rajye--in the kingdom of Vrndavana forest; abhisiktam--enthroned; nikhila--of all; samaya--auspicious times; bhartuh--of the lord; karttikasya--of Karttika; adhidevim--the presiding deity; aparimita--countless; mukunda--of Lord Mukunda; preyasi--of beloveds; vrnda--of the multitudes; mukhyam--the first; jagad--in the universe; agha--sins; hara--removing; kirtim--fame. etc.

 

I worship Sri Radhika, who has been crowned queen of the incomparably glorious kingdom of Vrndavana forest, who is the presiding Deity of the month of Karttika, the best of all auspicious occasions, who is the first of Lord Mukunda's countless beloveds, and whose fame removes the sins of this world.

hari-pada-nakha-koti-prsta-paryanta-sima-

        tatam api kalayantim prana-koter abhistam

pramudita-madiraksi-vrnda-vaidagdhya-diksa-

        gurum ati-guru-kirtim radhikam arcayami

 

hari--of Lord Hari; pada--of the feet; nakha--of the nails; koti--of the tips; prsta--surface; paryanta--boundary; sima--limit; tatam--surface; api--also; kalayantim--considering; prana--life; koter--millions; abhistam--desired; pramudita--jubilant; madira--charming; aksi--eyes; vrnda--group; vaidagdhya--expertise; diksa--beginning; gurum--teacher; ati--very; guru--great; kirtim--fame. etc.

 

I worship Sri Radhika, who considers the tip of Lord Krsna's toenail millions of times more dear than Her own life, who is teaches the conjugal arts to the many happy, beautiful-eyed gopis, and whose fame is very great.

amala-kanaka-pattoddhrsta-kasmira-gaurim

        madhurima-laharibhih samparitam kisorim

hari-bhuja-parirabdham labdha-romasca-palim

        sphurad-aruna-dukulam radhikam arcayami

 

amala--pure; kanaka--gold; patta--in a pestle; uddhrsta--crushed; kasmira--kunkuma; gaurim--fair complexion; madhurima--sweetness; laharibhih--with eaves; samparitam--surrounded; kisorim--girl; hari--of Lord Hari; bhuja--by the arms; parirabdham--embraced; labdha--attained; romasca--hairs standing erect in joy; palim--multitude; sphurad--manifesting; aruna--red; dukulam--garments. etc.

 

I worship Sri Radhika, whose fair complexion is the color of crushed kunkuma in a golden pestle, who is an adolescent girl flooded with waves of sweetness, who is embraced by the arms of Lord Hari, whose bodily hairs are standing erect in ecstasy, and who is dressed in splendid red silk garments.

 

TEXT 9

 

tad amala-madhurimnam kamam adhara-rupam

        paripathati varistham susthu radhastakam yah

ahimakirana-putri-kula-kalyana-candrah

        sphutam akhilam abhistam tasya tustas tanoti

 

tad--of Her; amala--pure; madhurimnam--of the sweetnesses; kamam--indeed; adhara--of a great reservoir; rupam--the form; paripathati--reads; varistham--excellent; susthu--nicely; radhastakam--eight prayers glorifying Sri Radha; yah--one who; ahimakirana-putri--of the Yamuna, the daughter of the sun-god; kula-kalyana--on the shore; candrah--the moon ; sphutam--manifested; akhilam--all; abhistam--desires; tasya--of him; tustah--satisfied; tanoti--does.

 

Lord Krsna, the auspicious moon shining on the Yamuna's shore, becomes pleased and fulfills all the desires of a person who reads these eight beautiful verses, which are a reservoir of Sri Radhika's splendid and pure sweetness.

 

Note: this is chanted to the same meter as the second Kunjaviharastaka, on the Rupa Goswami Sampler tape, beginning avirata rati bandhu...
