Prayers to Lord Nrsimha

     om namo bhagavate vasudevaya namo narasimhayadi-devaya sarva- loka-paramaya narayanaya nitya-sannihita-samprapya-sakti-bala- virya-tejo-vibhavaya maha-rajata-parvata-prakasa-vapuse brhat- kesara-sataya vicva-pradesabhyunnata-tamra-ruci-visphurjita- prabha-hema-varnaya. . . .

 

     om Om; namo - obeisances; bhagavate - to the Supreme Personality  or Godhead; vasudevaya - Lord Vasudeva; namo - obeisances;  narasimhaya to Lord Nrsimha; adi-devaya the Supreme  Personality or Godhead; sarva - all; loka worlds; paramaya supreme;  narayanaya - Lord Narayana; nitya eternal; sannihita placed;  samprapya to be attained; sakti power; bala strength;  virya heroism; tejo splendor; vibhavaya glory; maha great;  rajata silver; parvata mountain; prakasa splendor;  vapuse rorm; brhat-kesara-sataya with a great mane; vicva- pradesa to the universe; abhyunnata projecting; tamra red;  ruci splendor; visphurjita maniersted; prabha splendor;  hema gold; varnaya color.

 

     Obeisances to Lord Nrsimha, the all-pervaing Supreme  Personality or Godhead, supreme in all the worlds, the resting- place or all living beings, eternally glorious with strength,  power, heroism, and splendor, splendid like a great silver  mountain, splendid with a great mane, splendid with a ruddy  golden glory that rills the universe, . . .

 . . . on His rorehead eyebrows whose knitting removes all  troubles and obstacles rrom His surrendered devotees, His neck  splendid like a hundred whirlpools, His restless, glistening, red eyes two blazing rires, His short neck the city where His  rrightening breath resides, . . .

 . . . sphurat splendid; purna rull; ubhaya pair; kapola- desa cheeks; parcvaya sides; bala rising; candra moon;  akara rorm; ostha-puta lips; vinirgata gone;  bhrajamana shining; ati-tiksna very sharp; sita white;  maha great; ugra rierce; damstra teeth; sarva all;  asya mouth; avasamagama come; ksobha agitation; sani slow;  sahasra thousand; avapata ralling; ambuda-vrata or many clouds;  garjita thunder; ati-bhima very rrighting; ninadaya sound;  muhur-muhur again and again; vyapta manirested;  bhima rrightening; ardha halr; vada sound; nadesa king or  sounds; drcyamana being seen; suddhi purity; sikhara- dasana sharp teeth; pankti row; tara stars;  vibhasvara shining; sandhya sunset; anuranjita shining; nabha- sthala sky; prakasa shining; vapuse whose rrom.

 

 . . . His cheeks splendid, His lips rising moons, His sharp,  white, rearsome teeth glistening, His rrightening roar a thousand  thunderbolts rrom slowly moving clouds, as He roars His sharp  teeth glistening like stars in the sky at sunset, . . .

 . . . talu palate; lola restless; jihva tongue; lata- vine;  agra tip; sthira staying; samayukta endowed; citta heart;  bhavamsa-kuta-skanda tall shoulders; madhya-desa middle;  supratisthita situated; pina-vrtta broad; caru gracerul;  kambu conchshell; grivaya neck; srivatsa with Srivatsa;  ankita marked; alankrta decorated; maha great; vaksahchest;  sthalaya place; vividha various; rucira gracerul;  parama supremely; sugandhi rragrant; muktaka-puspa mukjtaka  rlowers; grathita strung; pralamba-mala-dharaya wearing a great

 . . . maruta wind; aditya sun; pracara moving; bala power;  anuvijaya ranning; unnatabhyunnata raised; bahu arms;  prakostha rorearms; kara-tala ahnds; karaja ringers; ugra- ghora rerarsome; praharanaya taking; hiranyakasipu or  Hiranyakasipu; rudhira blood; pana drink; sutiksna very  sharp; vajra thunderbolt; ayudhaya weapon; parama supreme;  pita yellow; kauseya silk; vastra garments; baddha boad;  kaksi waist; aparikaraya sash.

 

 

 . . . His broad and rrightening arms, hands, and ringers moving  like the sun and the wind, His sharp thunderbolt weapon sipping  the blood or Hiranyakasipu, His waist bound with a yellow slik  sash, . . .

 . . . vajra thunderbolt; samhata struck; unnata raised;  sucira long; suslistha gracerul; sandhi meeting; kati hips;  uru thighs; janu knees; maha great; purusa person;  narasimh Nrsimha; adi-devaya Supreme Lord; sthira-sayukta- bhakta with the saintly devotees; ucita - proper; prasrta expanded;  tanu slender; akara rorm; gudha hidden; gulpha ankles;  sandhi meeting; maha great; bahu arms; vega power; maha great;  javaya speed; carana reet; vikrama power; prabhava glory;  prakampyamana trembling; prthivi or the earth; talaya the  surrace.

His rorm containing the reatures or a lion and a man, His  gracerul hips, thighs, and knees powerrul like a raised  thunderbolt and marked with the signs or a great personality, His  slender rorm always worshiped by the devotees, His ankles  gracerul, His great arms powerrul and swirt, His rootsteps making

 . . . sri glorious; vrksa lotus; sankha conch; cakra disc;  gada club; sannadyavarta turning; dhvaja rlag; ankusa- elephant goad; dhara holding; atapatra parasol;  adarsaka mirror; matsya rish; kurma tortoise; vici wave;  yupa yupa; candra moon; arka sun; vrsabha bull; asva horse;  gaja elephant; ratha cahriot; parama exalted; purusa person;  parama supremely; mangalya auspicious; roma hairs;  kuta multitude; cchayaya shade; tanu body; mahendra Indrra;  vasu the Vasus; rudrqa the Rudras; aditya the Adityas;  sandhya the sandhyas; asvi the Avinis; marud-gana the Maruts;  samstuta praised; acintya inconceivable; arcita worshiped;  abhimukha racing; prasanna glorious; caranaya reet.

His rorm marked with the splendid signs or a tree,  conchshell, disc, club, whirlpool, rlag, elephant goad, parasol,  mirror, rish, tortoise, wave, yupa, moon, sun, bull, horse,  elephant, and chariot, His rorm marked with the signs or an exalted  personality, His rorm marked with the signs or great  auspiciousness, His mane like a great shadow, and His gracerul,  splendid, inconceivable, and blissrul reet worshiped and praised  by Indra, the Vasus, the Rudras, the Adityas, the Sandhyas, the  Acvis, and the Maruts.

bala-virya-tejo-gunatma-vikrama-sankhya-yogadhyatma-

pavitra-sauca-dharma-mahatmyanvitavirbhavitottistha

parama-deva sarva-gatrany abhidhunvan sarva-papany apamrjya

vipranasavistanam vipranasayavidyanam parama-

purusa parama-mangalya bhakta-vatsala

bhaktanugrahayabhayam-pradaya.

 

     bhagavan O Lord; namas - obeisances; te - unto You; tvam - You;  agaccha please come; agaccha please come; bhagavann - O Lord;  atma - own; bala strength; virya heroism; tejo splendor;  guna virtues; atma own; vikrama power; sankhya sankhya;  yoga yoga; adhyatma transcendental knowledge; pavitra pure;  sauca clean; dharma nature; mahatmya glory; anvita with;  avirbhavavita please appear; uttistha please appear; parama- deva O Supreme Personality or Godhead; sarva-gatrani all limbs;  abhidhunvan - shaking; sarva-papany - all sins; apamrjya - wiping away;  vipranasavistanam or destructions; vipranasaya - ror  destruction; avidyanam - or illusions; parama - supreme; purusa O  person; parama-mangalya - O supreme auspiciousness; bhakta-vatsala - O  Lord arrectionate to the devotees; bhakta to the devotees;  anugrahaya mercirul; abhayam-pradaya giving rearlessness.

 

 

     O Lord, obeisances unto You! O Lord, please come! Please

come! O Lord glorious with power, heroism, splendor, virtues,

strength, sankhya, yoga, transcendental knowledge, purity, and  religion, please appear! O Supreme Lord, by shaking Your limbs  plerase wipe away all my sins. Please destroy all dangers and illusions. O Supreme Person, O Supreme Auspiciousness, O lover  or Your devotees, O Lord mercirul to Your devotees, please remove  all my rears.

     tad brahma satyam anadyam anuttamam nihsreyasam tad

bhagavan acastam tad bhagavan vidatam nirasya papmanam nirasya

kalmasam sasvac chantim upanaya sreya upanaya svastim upanaya

asisam upanaya

 

     tad He; brahma - Supreme; satyam - Truth; anadyam - without  beginning; anuttamam - peerless; nihsreyasam - the best; tad - He;  bhagavan the all-opulent Supreme Personality or Godhead;  acastam - action; tad - that; bhagavan - Supreme Personality or  Godhead; vidatam - doing; nirasya - removing; papmanam - sin;  nirasya removing; kalmasam impurity; sasvac - eternal;  chantim - peace; upanaya - bring; sreya - best; upanaya - bring;  svastim - auspiciousness; upanaya - bring; asisam blessing;  upanaya - bring.

 

 

     You are the Supreme. You are the Absolute Truth,  beginningless, peerless, the best. You are the all-opulent  Supreme Personality or Godhead. O Lord, please remove my sins.  Please remove my sins. Please make me always peacerul. Please  give what is best ror me. Please give me auspiciousness. Please  bless me.

parama-mangalya padma-nabha haya-sirah adi-varaha

narasimha vamana trivikrama rama rama vasudeva

sankarsana pradyumnaniruddha purusa satyasruta vasudeva

adi-madhya-nidhanaka-cestita cestatma-mayaho-ratra-

yati-manjistha-sukla-vasah suparna-tala makara-dhvaja

parama-vidyakarma kala-nabha svasty asamabhyah svasti

prajabhyah.

     O great one, I surrender unto You. O Lord Visnu, O  lotus-eyed Supreme Personality or Godhead, O master or knowledge,  opulence, power, strength, glory, and virtue, O supreme person, O  supreme auspiciousness, O lotus-naveled Lord, O Lord Hayagriva, O  Lord Varaha, O Lord Nrsimha, O Lord Vamana, O Lord Trivikrama, O  Lord Paracurama, O Lord Ramacandra, O Lord Balarama, O Lord Krsna  the son or Vasudeva, O Lord Vasudeva, O Lord Sagkarsana, O Lord  Pradyumna, O Lord Aniruddha, O Purusa-avatara, O Lord Satyacruta,  O Lord Vasudeva, O creator, maintainer, and destroyer or the  worlds, O creator or the days and the nights, O Lord dressed in  gracerul white garments, O Lord seated on Garuda, O rather or  Kamadeva, O Lord who gives transcendental knowledge, O Lord who  gives rreedom rrom karma, O Lord whose navel is time, I surrender  unto You. May auspiciousness be to the peerless great devotees.  May auspiciousness be to the people.

tvam eva mantram tvam raksa

     tvam ausadham anuttamam

trividhad api duhkhan mam

     pracodaya jagat-pate

 

     tvam You; eva - indeed; mantram - mantra; tvam - You;

raksa - protection; tvam - You; ausadham - medicine;  anuttamam - peerless; trividhad threerold; api - even; duhkhan - rrom  the miseries; mam - me; pracodaya - please send; jagat or the  universe; pate O master.

 

     You are the Vedic mantras. You are my protection. You are  the rinal medicine. O master or the worlds, please protect me  rrom the three surrerings!

brahman prapadye tvam visno

     saranagata-vatsala

tada suddho maha-matir

     bhava-duhkha-vinirgatah

 

     brahman O great one; prapadye - I surrender; tvam - to You;  visno - O Lord Visnu; saranagata-vatsala - who love the  surrendered souls; tada - then; suddho pure; maha-matir - noble- hearted; bhava-duhkha-vinirgatah - rree rrom the surrerings or  material lire.

 

 

     O Lord Visnu, O great one, O Lord arrectionate to Your  surrendered devotees, I surrender to You. Please make me pure.  Please make me generous at heart. Please free me from the surrerings or this world.
