Prayer for the Mercy of Sri Sri Laksmi-Nrsimha

Srimat-payo-nidhi-niketana cakra-pane

     bhogindra-bhoga-mani-rajita punya-murte

yogica cacvata caranya bhavabdhi-pota

     laksmi-nrsimha mama dehi karavalambam

 

     Srimat - glorious; payo-nidhi - in the ocean of milk;  niketana - rsidence; cakra - cakra; pane - in hand; bhogindra - of the  king of serpents; bhoga - onm the coils; mani - jewels;  rajita - splendid; punya - transcendental; murte - form; yogi - of  yogis; ica - O king; cacvata - eternal; caranya - the shelter;  bhava - of birth and death; abdhi - on the ocean; pota - a boat;  laksmi-nrsimha - O Laksmi-Nrsimha; mama - of me; dehi - please give; kara - of the hand; avalambam - sxtending.

 

 

     O Lord whose home is in the milk-ocean, O Lord who holds the  cakra in Your hand, O Lord seated on the glittering jewels of the  serpent-king Ananta's coils, O Lord whose form is transcendental,  O master of the yogis, O eternal Lord, O shelter of the devotees,  O boat that crosses the ocean of birth and death, O Laksmi- Nrsimha, please extend Your hand to save me.

brahmendra-rudra-marud-arka-kirita-koti-

     sagghattitagghri-kamalamala-kanti-kanta

laksmi-lasat-kuca-saroruha-raja-hamsa

     laksmi-nrsimha mama dehi karavalambam

 

     brahma - Brahma; indra - Indra; rudra - Siva; marut - the Maruts;  arka - Surya; kirita - crowns; koti - millions;   sagghattit - assembled; agghri - feet; kamala - lotus; amala-kanti- kanta - splendid and handsome; laksmi - of the goddess of fortune;  lasat - glittering; kuca - of the breast; saroruha - on the lotus  flower; raja-hamsa - regal swan.

 

 

     O Lord to whose lotus feet a host of Brahmas, Indras, Sivas,  Maruts, and Suryas respectfully touch their millions of crowns, O  glorious and handsome Lord, O regal swan resting on the  glistening lotus flower of Laksmi-devi's breast, O Laksmi- Nrsimha, please extend Your hand to save me.

samsara-dava-dahanakula-bhisanoru-

     jvalavalibhir ati-dugdha-tanuruhasya

tvat-pada-padma-sarasim caranagatasya

     laksmi-nrsimha mama dehi karavalambam

 

     samsara - of repeated birth and death; dava-dahana - the  forest fire; akula-bhisana - terrifying; uru- jvalavalibhih - with great flames; ati-dugdha - completely burned;  tanuruhasya - the hairs on his body; tvat-pada-padma-sarasim - the  lotus-lake of Your feet; caranagatasya - taking shelter.

 

 

     My body aflame in the terrifying forest-fire of repeated  birth and death, I dive into the lotus-lake of Your feet. O

Laksmi-Nrsimha, please extend Your hand to save me.

 

 

Text 4

 

 

samsara-jala-patitasya jagan-nivasa

     sarvendriyartha-badicagra-jhasopamasya

protkampita-pracura-taluka-mastakasya

     laksmi-nrsimha mama dehi karavalambam

 

     samsara - of birth and death; jala - into the net;  patitasya - fallen; jagat - of the universe; nivasa - the abode;  sarva - all; indriya - senses; artha - for the purpose; badica - fish- hook; agra - tip; jhasa - a fish; upamasya - like;  protkampita - trembling; pracura - great; taluka-mastakasya - the

front of the palate.

 

 

     I am like a fish trapped in the net of birth and death, a  fish frantically trying to shake from its mouth the hook of  material sense-pleasures. O Laksmi-Nrsimha, O resting-place of  all the worlds, please extend Your hand to save me.

 

 

Text 5

 

 

samsara-kupam ati-ghoram agadha-mulam

     samprapya duhkha-cata-sarpa-samakulasya

dinasya deva krpaya padam agatasya

     laksmi-nrsimha mama dehi karavalambam

 

     samsara - of birth and death; kupam - the well; ati-ghoram - very  terrible; agadha-mulam - bottomless; samprapya - attaining; duhkha - of  sufferings; cata - hundreds; sarpa - of snakes;  samakulasya - tormented; dinasya - wretched; deva - O Lord;  krpaya - with mercy; padam - to the feet; agatasya - approached.

 

     Fallen into the terrible bottomless well of birth and  death, I am tortured by the snakes of a hundred sufferings. By  Your mercy I somehow approach Your feet. O Laksmi-Nrsimha,  please extend Your hand to save me.

 

 

Text 6

 

 

samsara-bhikara-karindra-karabhighata-

     nispidyamana-vapusah sakalarti-naca

prana-prayana bhava-bhiti-samakulasya

     laksmi-nrsimha mama dehi karavalambam

 

     samsara - of birth and death; bhikara - frightening; kari - of  elephants; indra - if the king; kara - by the trunk;  abhighata - struck; nispidyamana - tormented; vapusah - body;  sakala - all; arti - sufferings; naca - O destroyer; prana - of life;  prayana - going; bhava - of birth and death; bhiti - with fears;  samakulasya - agitated.

 

 

     Caught by the tightening trunk of the elephant of repeated  birth and death, I am overcome with fear. O destroyer of  sufferings, O final goal of life, O Laksmi-Nrsimha, please  extend Your hand to save me.

 

 

Text 7

 

 

samsara-sarpa-visa-digdha-mahogra-tivra-

     damstragra-koti-paridasta-vinasta-murteh

nagari-vahana sudhabdhi-nivasa caure

     laksmi-nrsimha mama dehi karavalambam

 

     samsara - of birth and death; sarpa - of the snake; visa - of  the poison; digdha - anointed; maha - great; ugra - terrible;  tivra - sharp; damstra - fangs; agra-koti - the tip;  paridasta - bitten; vinasta - destroyed; murteh - form; nagari- vahana - O Lord who rides on Garuda, the enemy of snakes;  sudhabdhi - in the ocean of nectar; nivasa - who resides; caure - O  Krsna, grandson of Cursena.

 

 

     Bitten by the terrible, sharp, poison fangs of the snake of  birth and death, I am about to perish. O Lord Krsna, O Lord who  resides in the milk ocean, O Lord carried by Garuda, O Laksmi- Nrsimha, please extend Your hand to save me.

 

 

Text 8

 

 

samsara-vrksam agha-bijam ananta-karma-

     cakha-yutam karana-patram anagga-puspam

aruhya duhkha-phalinam patitam dalayo

     laksmi-nrsimha mama dehi karavalambam

 

     samsara-vrksam - the tree of birth and death; agha - of  horrible sins; bijam - the seed; ananta - limitless; karma - who  actions; cakha-yutam - with branches; karana - senses;  patram - leaves; anagga - sex; puspam - the flowers; aruhya - climbing;  duhkha - suffering; phalinam - the fruit; patitam - fallen; dalayah - O

merciful one.

 

 

     First I climbed and then I fell from the tree of birth and  death, its seeds horrible sins, its countless branches karmic  reactions, its leaves the senses, its flowers sex, and its fruit  suffering. O merciful one, O Laksmi-Nrsimha, please extend Your  hand to save me.

 

Text 9

 

 

samsara-sagara-vicala-karala-kala-

     nakra-graha-grasita-nigraha-vigrahasya

vyadhasya raga-nicayormini piditasya

     laksmi-nrsimha mama dehi karavalambam

 

     samsara - of birth and death; sagara - ocean; vicala - broad;  karala - frightening; kala - time; nakra - of the crocodile; graha - in  the grip; grasita - swallowed; nigraha - in the grip;  vigrahasya - body; vyadhasya - wounded; raga - of material attraction;  nicaya - a host; urmini - in the waves; piditasya - tormented.

 

 

     I am tossed by waves of passionate desires. I am savagely  bitten and almost devoured by the fearsome crocodile of time  swimming in the ocean of birth and death. I am filled with pain.  O Laksmi-Nrsimha, please extend Your hand to save me.

 

Text 10

 

 

samsara-sagara-nimajjana-muhyamanam

     dinam vilokaya vibho karuna-nidhe mam

prahlada-kheda-parihara-krtavatara

     laksmi-nrsimha mama dehi karavalambam

 

     samsara-sagara - in the ocean of birth and death;  nimajjana - plunged; muhyamanam - fainting; dinam - wretched;  vilokaya - look; vibhah - O all-powerful Lord; karuna-nidhe - O great  treasure of mercy; mam - at me; prahlada - of Prahlada; kheda - the  dufferings; parihara - to remove; krta - did; avatara - incarnation.

 

 

     Please see how I suffer, drowning in the ocean of birth and  death. O Lord rich with mercy, O all-powerful Lord who descended  to this world to save Prahlada from his troubles, O Laksmi- Nrsimha, please extend Your hand to save me.

samsara-ghora-gahane carato murare

     marogra-bhikara-mrga-pracurarditasya

artasya matsara-nidagdha-su-duhkhitasya

     laksmi-nrsimha mama dehi karavalambam

 

     samsara - of birth and death; ghora - horrible;  gahane - impenetrable jungle; caratah - wandering; murare - O Krsna;  mara - of death; ugra - horrible; bhikara - frightened; mrga - deer;  pracura - very; arditasya - distressed; artasya - suffering; matsara - by  envy; nidagdha - burned; su-duhkhitasya - tormented.

 

 

     Suffering, afraid of death, and burned by envy, I am a deer  lost in the impassable jungle of birth and death. O Krsna, O  Laksmi-Nrsimha, please extend Your hand to save me.

 

Text 12

 

 

baddhva gale yama-bhata bahu-tarjayantah

     karsanti yatra bhava-paca-catair yutam mam

ekakinam para-vacam cakitam dayalo

     laksmi-nrsimha mama dehi karavalambam

 

     baddhva - bound; gale - at the neck; yama - of Yamaraja;  bhatah - the soldiers; bahu-tarjayantah - tormenting;  karsanti - drag; yatra - where; bhava - of births and deaths; paca - of  ropes; cataih - with hundreds; yutam - endowed; mam - me;  ekakinam - alone; para - on others; vacam - dependent; cakitam - afraid;

dayalah - O merciful one.

 

 

     Mocking me and binding my neck with the ropes of a hundred  births and deaths, the soldiers of Yamaraja drag me to Yamaloka.  Frightened and alone, I am in the grip of my enemies. O merciful  Laksmi-Nrsimha, please extend Your hand to save me.

laksmi-pate kamala-nabha sureca visno

     yajneca yajna madhusudana visva-rupa

brahmanya Kesava janardana vasudeva

     laksmi-nrsimha mama dehi karavalambam

 

     laksmi - of the goddess of fortune; pate - O husband; kamala- nabha - lotus-navle; sureca - O master of the demigods; visnah - O  Visnu; yajneca - O master of yajnas; yajna - O  Yajna; madhusudana - O killer of the Madhu demon; visva-rupa - O form  of the universe; brahmanya - O Deity of the brahmanas; Kesava - O  Kesava; janardana - O Janardana; vasudeva - O Vasudeva.

 

 

     O husband of Goddess Laksmi, O Lord whose navel is a lotus  flower, O master of the demigods, O Visnu, O master of all  yajYas, O yajYa personified, O killer of the Madhu demon, O  form of the universe, O Deity worshiped by the brahmanas, O  master of Brahma and Siva, O Lord who save Your devotees from  suffering, O son of Vasudeva, O Laksmi-Nrsimha, please extend  Your hand to save me.

 

Text 14

 

 

ekena cakram aparena karena cagkham

     anyena sindhu-tanayam avalambya tisthan

vametarena varadabhaya-padma-cihnam

     laksmi-nrsimha mama dehi karavalambam

 

     ekena - with one; cakram - the cakra; aparena - with another;  karena - hand; cagkham - teh conchshell; anyena - with another; sindhu- tanayam - Laksmi-devi, the daughter of the ocean;  avalambya - resting; tisthan - staing; vama - left; itarena - with the  other; varada - givving a benediction; abhaya - fearless;  padma - ltous; cihnam - sign.

 

 

     One right hand holds the cakra, and the other the  conchshell. One left hand rests on Goddess Laksmi, and the other  holds a lotus flower that gives the blessing of fearlessness. O  Laksmi-Nrsimha, please extend Your hand to save me. 

 

Text 15

 

 

andhasya me hrta-viveka-maha-dhanasya

     corair maha-balibhir indriya-namadheyaih

mohandhakara-kuhare vinipatitasya

     laksmi-nrsimha mama dehi karavalambam

 

     andhasya - blind; me - of me; hrta - stolen; viveka - of  disSrimination; maha - the great; dhanasya - wealth; coraih - by theives;  maha-balibhih - very powerful; indriya - the senses;  namadheyaih - named; moha - of illusion; andhakara - in a blinding;  kuhare - in the cave; vinipatitasya - fallen.

 

 

     The strong highwaymen that are my senses stole the great treasure  of my intelligence, blinded me, and threw me into a dark cave of  illusions. O Laksmi-Nrsimha, please extend Your hand to save  me.

prahlada-narada-paracara-pundarika-

     vyasadi-bhagavata-puggava-hrn-nivasa

bhaktanurakta paripalana parijata

     laksmi-nrsimha mama dehi karavalambam

 

     prahlada - Prahlada; narada - Narada; paracara - Paracara;  pundarika - Pundarika; vyasa - Vyasa; adi - beginning with;  bhagavata - devotees; puggava - great; hrt - in the heart;  nivasa - residing; bhakta - devotees; anurakta - who loves;  paripalana - protection; parijata - parijata.

 

 

     O Lord who stays in the hearts of Your great devotees like  Prahlada, Narada, Paracara, Pundarika, and Vyasa, O Lord who  loves Your devotees, O protector, O Lord graceful like a parijata  flower, O Laksmi-Nrsimha, please extend Your hand to save me.

 

Text 17

 

 

laksmi-nrsimha-caranabja-madhuvratena

     stotram krtam cubha-karam bhuvi cagkarena

ye tat pathanti manuja hari-bhakti-yuktas

      te yanti tat-pada-sarojam akhanda-rupam

 

     laksmi-nrsimha - of Laksmi-Nrsimha; carana - feet;  abja - lotus flower; madhuvratena - by a bumblebee; stotram - prayer;  krtam - done; cubha-karam - auspicious; bhuvi - in this world;  cagkarena - by Cagkara; ye - who; tat - that; pathanti - recite;  manuja - people; hari - for Lord Hari; bhakti - with devotion;  yuktah - endowed; te - they; yanti - attain; tat-pada-sarojam - His lotus feet; akhanda-rupam - perfect.

 

 

     This auspicious prayer was written in this world by Sagkara,  who is a bumblebee at the lotus flower of Laksmi-Nrsimha's  feet. Devotees of Lord Hari who read this prayer will go to the  perfect lotus flower of Lord Hari's feet.
