Proverbs 6:20-35
My son, keep your father's commands and do not forsake your mother's
teaching. Bind them upon your heart forever; fasten
them around your neck. When you walk, they will guide you; when you sleep,
they will watch over you; when you awake, they will speak to you. For these
commands are a lamp, this teaching is a light, and the corrections of discipline
are the way to life, keeping you from the immoral woman, from the smooth
tongue of the wayward wife. Do not lust in your heart after her beauty or let
her captivate you with her eyes, for the prostitute reduces you to a loaf of
bread, and the adulteress preys upon your very life. Can a man scoop fire
into his lap without his clothes being burned? Can a man walk on hot coals
without his feet being scorched? So is he who sleeps with another man's wife; no
one who touches her will go unpunished. Men do not despise a thief if he
steals to satisfy his hunger when he is starving. Yet if he is caught, he must
pay sevenfold, though it costs him all the wealth of his house. But a man
who commits adultery lacks judgment; whoever does so destroys himself.
Blows and disgrace are his lot, and his shame will never be wiped away; for
jealousy arouses a husband's fury, and he will show no mercy when he takes
revenge. He will not accept any compensation; he will refuse the bribe,
however great it is.
Matthew 5-27-32
"You have heard that it was said, `Do not commit adultery.' But I
tell you that anyone who looks at a woman lustfully
has already committed adultery with her in his heart. If your right eye causes
you to sin, gouge it out and throw it away. It is better for you to lose one
part of your body than for your whole body to be thrown into hell. And if
your right hand causes you to sin, cut it off and throw it away. It is better
for you to lose one part of your body than for your whole body to go into
hell.
"It has been said, `Anyone who divorces his wife must give her a
certificate of divorce.' But I tell you that anyone who
divorces his wife, except for marital unfaithfulness, causes her to become
an adulteress, and anyone who marries the divorced woman commits adultery.
Matthew 19:3-9
Some Pharisees came to him to test him. They
asked, "Is it lawful for a man to divorce his wife for any and every
reason?" "Haven't you read," he replied,
"that at the beginning the Creator `made them male
and female,' and said, `For this reason a man will leave his father and mother
and be united to his wife, and the two will become one flesh'? So they are no
longer two, but one. Therefore what God has joined together, let man not
separate."
"Why then," they asked, "did Moses command that a man
give his wife a certificate of divorce and send her
away?"
Jesus replied, "Moses permitted you to divorce your wives because
your hearts were hard. But it was not this way from the
beginning. I tell you that anyone who divorces his wife, except for marital
unfaithfulness, and marries another woman commits adultery."
Romans 1:18-27
The wrath of God is being revealed from heaven against all the
godlessness and wickedness of men who suppress the truth by
their wickedness, since what may be known about God is plain to them, because
God has made it plain to them. For since the creation of the world God's
invisible qualities -- his eternal power and divine nature -- have been clearly
seen, being understood from what has been made, so that men are without
excuse.
For although they knew God, they neither glorified him as God nor gave
thanks to him, but their thinking became futile and
their foolish hearts were darkened. Although they claimed to be wise,
they became fools and exchanged the glory of the immortal God for images made
to look like mortal man and birds and animals and reptiles.
Therefore God gave them over in the sinful desires of their hearts to
sexual impurity for the degrading of their bodies
with one another. They exchanged the truth of God for a lie, and worshiped and
served created things rather than the Creator -- who is forever praised.
Amen.
Because of this, God gave them over to shameful lusts. Even their women exchanged
natural relations for unnatural ones. In the same way the men also abandoned natural relations with women and
were inflamed with lust for one another. Men committed indecent acts with
other men, and received in themselves the due penalty for their
perversion.
Furthermore, since they did not think it worthwhile to retain the
knowledge of God, he gave them over to a depraved mind, to
do what ought not to be done. They have become filled with every kind of
wickedness, evil, greed and depravity. They are full of envy, murder,
strife, deceit and malice. They are gossips, slanderers, God-haters, insolent,
arrogant and boastful; they invent ways of doing evil; they disobey their
parents; they are senseless, faithless, heartless, ruthless. Although they know God's
righteous decree that those who do such things deserve death, they not only
continue to do these very things but also approve of those who practice them.
Romans 13:11-14
And do this, understanding the present time. The hour has come for you
to wake up from your slumber, because our salvation
is nearer now than when we first believed. The night is nearly over; the day
is almost here. So let us put aside the deeds of darkness and put on the
armor of light. Let us behave decently, as in the daytime, not in orgies
and drunkenness, not in sexual immorality and debauchery, not in dissension
and jealousy. Rather, clothe yourselves with the Lord Jesus Christ, and do
not think about how to gratify the desires of the sinful nature.
1Corinthians 5:1-5
It is actually reported that there is sexual immorality among you, and
of a kind that does not occur even among pagans: A
man has his father's wife. And you are proud! Shouldn't you rather have been
filled with grief and have put out of your fellowship the man who did this?
Even though I am not physically present, I am with you in spirit. And I have
already passed judgment on the one who did this, just as if I were present.
When you are assembled in the name of our Lord Jesus and I am with you in
spirit, and the power of our Lord Jesus is present, hand this man over to
Satan, so that the sinful nature may be destroyed and his spirit saved on the day
of the Lord.
1Corinthians 6:9-20
Do you not know that the wicked will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do
not be deceived: Neither the sexually immoral nor
idolaters nor adulterers nor male prostitutes nor homosexual offenders nor
thieves nor the greedy nor drunkards nor slanderers nor swindlers will inherit the
kingdom of God. And that is what some of you were. But you were washed, you
were sanctified, you were justified in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ and by
the Spirit of our God.
"Everything is permissible for me" -- but not everything is
beneficial.
"Everything is permissible for me" -- but I will not be
mastered by anything. "Food for the stomach and the stomach
for food" -- but God will destroy them both.
The body is not meant for sexual immorality, but for the Lord, and the Lord
for the body. By his power God raised the Lord from the dead, and he will raise
us also. Do you not know that your bodies are members of Christ himself? Shall
I then take the members of Christ and unite them with a prostitute? Never!
Do you not know that he who unites himself with a prostitute is one with
her in body? For it is said, "The two will become one flesh." But he
who unites himself with the Lord is one with him
in spirit. Flee from sexual immorality. All other sins a
man commits are outside his body, but he who sins sexually sins against
his own body. Do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit, who
is in you, whom you have received from God? You are not your own; you
were bought at a price. Therefore honor God with your body.
1Corinthians 10:1-13
For I do not want you to be ignorant of the fact, brothers, that our forefathers were all under the cloud and that
they all passed through the sea. They were all baptized into Moses in the
cloud and in the sea. They all ate the same spiritual food and drank the same
spiritual drink; for they drank from the spiritual rock that accompanied
them, and that rock was Christ. Nevertheless, God was not pleased with most
of them; their bodies were scattered over the desert.
Now these things occurred as examples to keep us from setting our hearts
on evil things as they did. Do not be idolaters,
as some of them were; as it is written: "The people sat down to eat and
drink and got up to indulge in pagan revelry." We should not commit sexual
immorality, as some of them did -- and in one day twenty-three thousand of them
died. We should not test the Lord, as some of them did -- and were killed by
snakes. And do not grumble, as some of them did -- and were killed by the destroying
angel. These things happened to them as examples and
were written down as warnings for us, on whom the fulfillment of the ages
has come. So, if you think you are standing firm, be careful that you don't
fall! No temptation has seized you except what is common to man. And God is
faithful; he will not let you be tempted beyond what you can bear. But when
you are tempted, he will also provide a way out so that you can stand up
under it.
Galations 5:13-26
You, my brothers, were called to be free. But do not use your freedom to
indulge the sinful nature; rather, serve one
another in love. The entire law is summed up in a single command: "Love
your neighbor as yourself." If you keep on biting and devouring each other,
watch out or you will be destroyed by each other.
So I say, live by the Spirit, and you will not gratify the desires of
the sinful nature. For the sinful nature desires
what is contrary to the Spirit, and the Spirit what is contrary to the sinful
nature. They are in conflict with each other, so that you do not do what
you want. But if you are led by the Spirit, you are not under law.
The acts of the sinful nature are obvious: sexual immorality, impurity
and debauchery; idolatry and witchcraft; hatred,
discord, jealousy, fits of rage, selfish ambition, dissensions, factions and
envy; drunkenness, orgies, and the like. I warn you, as I did before, that those
who live like this will not inherit the kingdom of God.
But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness,
goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control.
Against such things there is no law. Those who belong to Christ Jesus have
crucified the sinful nature with its passions and desires. Since we live by
the Spirit, let us keep in step with the Spirit. Let us not become conceited,
provoking and envying each other.
Ephesians 5:1-7
Be imitators of God, therefore, as dearly loved children and live a life
of love, just as Christ loved us and gave
himself up for us as a fragrant offering and sacrifice to God.
But among you there must not be even a hint of sexual immorality, or of
any kind of impurity, or of greed, because these
are improper for God's holy people. Nor should there be obscenity,
foolish talk or coarse joking, which are out of place, but rather thanksgiving.
For of this you can be sure: No immoral, impure or greedy person -- such a
man is an idolater -- has any inheritance in the kingdom of Christ and of
God. Let no one deceive you with empty words, for because of such things God's
wrath comes on those who are disobedient. Therefore do not be partners with
them.
Colossians 3:1-11
Since, then, you have been raised with Christ, set your hearts on things
above, where Christ is seated at the right
hand of God. Set your minds on things above, not on earthly things. For you
died, and your life is now hidden with Christ in God. When Christ, who is your
life, appears, then you also will appear with him in glory.
Put to death, therefore, whatever belongs to your earthly nature: sexual
immorality, impurity, lust, evil desires and
greed, which is idolatry. Because of these, the wrath of God is coming. You
used to walk in these ways, in the life you once lived. But now you must rid
yourselves of all such things as these: anger, rage, malice, slander, and
filthy language from your lips. Do not lie to each other, since you have taken
off your old self with its practices and have put on the new self, which
is being renewed in knowledge in the image of its Creator. Here there is no
Greek or Jew, circumcised or uncircumcised, barbarian, Scythian, slave or
free, but Christ is all, and is in all.
1Thessalonians 4:1-8
Finally, brothers, we instructed you how to live in order to please God,
as in fact you are living. Now we ask you and urge
you in the Lord Jesus to do this more and more. For you know what instructions
we gave you by the authority of the Lord Jesus.
It is God's will that you should be sanctified: that you should avoid
sexual immorality; that each of you should learn to
control his own body in a way that is holy and honorable, not in passionate
lust like the heathen, who do not know God; and that in this matter no one
should wrong his brother or take advantage of him. The Lord will punish men
for all such sins, as we have already told you and warned you. For God did
not call us to be impure, but to live a holy life. Therefore, he who rejects
this instruction does not reject man but God, who gives you his Holy Spirit.
Jude 5-7
Though you already know all this, I want to remind you that the Lord
delivered his people out of Egypt, but later destroyed
those who did not believe. And the angels who did not keep their positions
of authority but abandoned their own home -- these he has kept in darkness,
bound with everlasting chains for judgment on the great Day. In a similar way,
Sodom and Gomorrah and the surrounding towns gave themselves up to
sexual immorality and perversion. They serve as an example of those who suffer the
punishment of eternal fire. 2Corinthians8-9 2or3Witnesses E-mailMe
