Dear Vaisnavis and Vaisnavas,

Please accept my humble obeisances, all glories to Srila Prabhupada

Welcome to the "Apocalypse 1999?" conference.

This new conference aims at informing devotees of major distruptions likely

to happen in 1999 and 2000. These disturbances are likely to be caused by a

number of factors: the "millennium bug" (the failure of many computer

systems and embedded chips to recognize the change of date at the end of the

century), the related global economic crisis, shortage of food, and social

unrest. The conference will also explore practical measures devotees can

take to protect their families and other Vaisnavas.

Since I joined the Hare Krsna Movement, in 1980, I kept hearing, off and on,

predictions like: "Next year there will be the third world war." Did you

also hear such things? For many of us the tendency is, therefore, not to

take rumors or prophesies of world disasters seriously. This time I am

taking it seriously for a number of reasons, which we will explore in future

texts.
