According to Lord Nityananda Prabhu:
eka
adbhuta mandir hoibe prakas
gauranga nitya-seva hoibe vikas
There will be an austounding temple from where the
eternal service to Lord
Caitanya will blossom.
If the Lord had predicted so it will be so, financial
crash, Y2K or
whatever. When that will be accomplished is a question
that I am not able to
answer.

The first consideration is that many outstanding
buildings have been built
in the 17th century (the Taj Mahal comes to mind) or even
before.
Twentieth-century technology is therefore not an absolute
requirement to
fulfill the vision of the Acaryas on the Mayapur Temple.
The second consideration is that a major financial and
computer crash will
not necessarily means the end of technology.

Why contradictory? I don't see any contradiction between
a temporary
collapse of the present status and the spreading of Krsna
Consciousness.
Widespread, intense suffering would purify accumulated
karma and could
produce a better situation for the preaching.
Srila Prabhupada did say:
Prabhupada: (break) ...zation will collapse very soon,
all over the world.
It will collapse. Either you may bring this ism or that
ism, this
civilization will collapse. People will become mad, being
harassed in so
many ways.

Hmmm...
For pole shifts: devotees living in hot, tropical areas
could store some
extra blankets and sweaters in case they suddenly find
themselves in a
colder environment, closer to the pole :-).
Third World War: In case of military conflict the basic
precautions
recommended in case of severe financial disasters or
technology break-down
(like storing food) will also come handy.
If an asteroid hits: what can you do?

I am afraid that--at the moment--the leadership of ISKCON
doesn't present a
united front on this issue. Some leaders apparently don't
take very
seriously the possibility of a collapse, for some leaders
it might be all
very new, some leaders might never yet heard about this
topics, while other
leaders are actively advising the devotees to store food
and to take other
precautions.
I started this conference because I am convinced that
major disruptions are
in store, starting from next year. I strongly feel
devotees should prepare
for the hard times ahead.
I don't care if--at the moment--I am seen as an extremist
or as a crank. I
felt the moral duty to give this information out and I am
doing it. It is up
to you to decide what you want to do.
