KEEP YOUR SYSTEM CLEAN TO STAY HEALTHY
By: Dr. Partap S. Chauhan.
Regular cleaning of toxins from the body is most
important both for prevention as well as curing the diseases. According to
Ayurveda most diseases are caused by waste products, which are are formed as a
result of metabolic activities in the body. Although the body has a natural
tendency to clean the waste products from the body, our modern life style
(tension, anxiety) and foods (frozen, fried, greasy) inhibit this natural
process. The following instructions will be helpful in maintaining a proper
cleaning of the toxins.
1. Eating rules should be followed to maintain the
natural cleaning processes in the body. Sleeping immediately after eating,
eating in anxiety, watching television or reading while eating, talking while
eating and driking water immediately after meals causes indigestion and
constipation. Some other important rules for eating.
a. Eat only
when you are hungry.
b. Chew the
food nicely.
c. Maintain
proper difference between two meals. (at least four hours)
d. Never
overeat.
e. Regulate
the food timings and eating habits.
A proper cleaning of toxins is possible, naturally,
by following these simple eating rules.
2. Taking of laxatives is once in a week is very
good to clean the toxins from the system. One should be careful about the
quantity of laxatives. The children, old people, injured, sick, pregnent women
and those having weak digestion should not take strong laxatives. Triphala
powder is a very common laxative prescribed by Ayurvedic doctors.
3. Fasting once in a week or once in two weeks also
digests the extra toxins in the body. Fasting should be according to a perosn's
constitution. It should not make a person weak. Depending on the strength, one
can observe complete fasting
or can eat only fruits, fruit juices, vegetable
soups or steamed vegetables.
So start following these instructions from today,
and you will feel a lot better with in two weeks. Please feel free to contact
for any further assistance.

Dear Uddharta das,
Dhyan Chaksu is a special kind of eye exercise
device. Here the details:
DHYAN CHAKSU YOGA SYSTEM
Take care of your eyes.
They will take of you.
Eyes is the most valuable sense of our body. In the
modern age you cannot avoid so many factors but the pwer of the eye vision can be preserved. Eye becomes weak due to many factors like heredity, imbalanced
diet, irregularity in daily routine,
intoxication, stress and exsessive consumption of antibiotic medecines.
Human eye functions as a camera. The eye lid
corresponds to the shutter, the iris to the diahpragm, lens to the camera lens,
and retina to the film. You can't receive the proper image on the retina
because the muscles of the eyes are not able to accomodate the eye ball size.
Loss of accomodation power can be, to some extent, compensated by spectacles
but it is not the permanent cure. Our eye muscles become more weak as the work
done by our muscles is done by the artificial lens. Same as by doing physiacal
esxercises, we can develop our body muscles, similarly we can develop our eye
muscles. Yoga is the science of controlling and concentrating the senses.
Whenever we control any sense, it is strenghten. Here we propose a system for retaining normal vision and improving reduced eye sight. It
consists of three elements:
1. DHYAN CHAKSU DEVICE
Having the shape of spectacles there is no lens.
They are substitute with metalic plates possessing number of holes. Each hole
functions like a natural lens. The size, centre distance, angle and number of
holes depends on the particulars of the individual As soon as we are
wearing DHYAN CHAKSU DEVICE we can read,
write and see with our natural power. The device provides natural exercise for
the eye muscless, relaxes them, strenghtens them, improves the concentration
and accomodation power. It cures defects like squint, shifting and swinging,
stimulates the olfactory and poptic nerves. As a result of that we can improve
our eyesight and mantain the normal eye vision.
2. AYURVEDIC TABLETS
We give Ayurvedic tablets for forty days. These
tablets improve our neurological system, digestion system and cure constipation
and gastic trouble which are the main causes for weakening of the eyes.
3. YOGA EXERCISES
The yogic maintining system of the eye is
scientific, hygienic and removes ailments caused by carelessness. We prescribe
some eye ball exercises which you can do whenever you like. These exercises are
to be done for 5 to 10 minutes a day.

There is a voluminous and exacting description of
omens, called "Brhat Samhita", by an astrological sage "Varahamihira".
Signs of crows, dogs, cows, jackals, conch's, kings, noises, umbrellas, you name
it, it's there. Not that my personal experience means anything as far as
verifying Vedic knowledge, but again and again I've seen these omen's manifest
in my life.....fascinating reading...and practically useful...

10. Does
anyone know about quivering signs in the body?
Mrkanda (Dasa)
Dear Astrologicallyminded devotees,
PAMHO. AGTSP. I was wondering if anyone on this conference
knows anything about the science of fortelling future auspicious or
inauspicious events by the quivering motion that sometimes occurs in different
parts of the body. I guess it could also be called something like a twitch. I
know in the Mahabharata, Sahadeva (I think) was supposed to know this science
very well as well as being able to tell what the certain signs in nature were
fortelling. For example, he saw a certain type of lizard on a wall in the house
of challaque and because it was facing a certain way and/or was in a certain
pose, he could tell that the house was going to be burned down. Thus, the
Pandavas took the warning, and it helped them escape. So, anyway, what about a
twitch in the right thigh? I get the feeling that maybe this topic is not quite
appropriate for this conference or for public discussion, but I was just
interested. I don't want to be unprepared for something difficult that may be
coming up.

Boiled cabbage is helpful against acidity.
Boil the cabbage in water and allow it to cool. This water should be taken
(about 150 ml.) twice a day. Eating ripe
banana is also gives relief from acidity. Eat one banana whenever you feel like
burning or acid in your stomach. Make sure you do not eat too many bananas (not
more than two at a time) as they might cause indigestion or constipation which
will increase the trouble further.
Vegetable juices like carot and cabbage is also beneficial. Watermelon is very helpful. Take about five pieces of Almond and soak
them in water overnight. Next morning peel them off and crush them to make a
paste. Mix this paste in one glass (250 ml.) milk. The milk should not be very
hot but it should not very cold too.
Drinkig a glass of cool milk (not ice cold) immediately helps. Sometimes when it is real problem you can
also drink the soda (bottle). It gives immediate relief.
Anyone
suffering from Hyperacidity should have clean bowel movements everyday,
prefrably in the morning. In case of constipation one should take some natural
laxatives to clean the bowels.
A
wonderful remedy is aloe gel. Take fresh leaves of Aloe Vera and remove the
skin. Eat the fresh get (sticky flesh). Quantity 10 to 20 grams. It is best to
take in the morning before eating anything else. It's bitter in taste but a
very good treatment for acidity.

12. massage:
an easy way to stay healthy
Massage (abhyanga) is a type of passive exercise. It
is specially good for weak people, who are unable to exercise. Different types
of massage techniques are mentioned in Ayurveda. Regular massage is the key to
good health, and is necessary both for prevention and cure of diseases.
Oil massage is most common. Oil should be chosen
according to the season and the personal constitution. Mustard oil is the best
for massaging in the winter. It should not be used in summer, however those in
habit of constant internal use of mustard oil can massage with it in all the
seasons. Coconut oil and olive oil are also good for massaging in other
seasons. People with vata type body should use some warm oil, and those with
pitta type will do good with cooling oil. The kapha types can do dry massage or
should use mustard oil after warming it.
METHOD OF MASSAGING
One should start massage from the feet, then massage
the legs, hands, abdomen, back, chest, neck, shoulders, face and head. First
apply the oil on the part which is to be massaged. Then massage the part gently
with palms till the oil goes inside the body. While massaging, the hands should
move from below to upwards. The motion should be uniform (not too fast and not
too slow) and pressure should be applied only on the muscles, not the bones.
Different types of actions of fingers and hands are used for massaging
different organs. One should be empty stomach while getting massage. The best
time for massaging is early morning or evening. One should take shower after
oil massage. Wait for 20-30 minutes before taking shower. There should be no
anxiety, stress, anger, and worry. The person should fully concentrate on the
part being massaged. It is better to get massage from an expert. You can do it
by yourself too, in case there is no expert. One should not take massage when
there is too much mucus in the body (aggravation of kapha), when suffering from
fever, and after one has undertaken cleansing therpies like vomitting (emesis)
and purgation.
BENEFITS OF MASSAGE
Massage stimulates the internal functions of the
body and provides nourishment to various body tissues. It helps in cleansing
the toxins from channels. Massaging with oil provides lubrication to various
body mechanisms. It stimulates the different agnis (enzymes), increases
assimilation of food and increases the vital body fluid called the ojas. It
works at both mental and physical levels of the body. It is beneficial in case
of insomnia, weakness of nerves, laziness, exhaustion, general debility, dry
and unhealthy skin.
So get started and let me know how you feel. Please
feel free to contact for any further assistance.
Happy massaging!

INDIGESTION
SYMPTOMS:
Common symptoms are feeling of heaviness and
uneasiness in stomach, stomach ache, coated tongue, anorexia, nausea,
constipation, diarrhea, vomiting, acidity, wind and distention in stomach,
laziness, weakness, headache and pain in lower legs.
CAUSES:
Indigestion is a very common trouble. It can be
caused due to improper and wrong eating habits. Eating too much fried foods,
meats, sweets, wrong combination of foods, irregular eating, eating before the
last meal is fully digested, mixing too many foods in a meal and over eating
can cause indigestion. Taking too much tea, coffee, alcohol, excessive smoking
,staying up late in the night or not sleeping at all, emotional disturbances
like stress, grief, anxiety, taking too much drugs like antibiotics, pain
killers and steroids etc. can cause indigestion.
Eating food which is not fresh like fast food and
microwaved food, eating very fast or too slowly, eating while moving, eating
while watching television or reading, eating in noisy and unpleasant
surroundings and eating too much raw foods can cause indigestion. It can also
be present as a symptom of some other disease. According to Ayurveda aggravation
of one, two or all the three doshas (Tridosha) can cause indigestion.
REMEDIES:
1.According
to Ayurveda a toxic material called 'ama' is produced as a result of
indigestion. Fasting is a very nice method to digest this ama. If the patient
is fat and strong he can fast completely for two days. Taking fruits, fruit
juices and boiled vegetables for one week is also a very beneficial way of
fasting.
2.Taking lemon juice in warm water three times a day
improves digestion.
3.Chewing a piece of raw ginger (about one gram)
with rock salt or common salt is good.
This should
be taken about five minutes before each meal.
4.Take equal amount of dry ginger, black pepper,
dried mint leaves, asa asafetida, anise seeds, coriander seeds, cumin, fennel
and common salt (20gms. each).
Grind them together and make a fine powder. Take
about 5gms. of this powder with water twice a day after meals. You can also
make the powder with whatever ingredients available in case all the ingredients
are not found.
5.Drinking butter milk is very beneficial to improve
the digestion. It should be taken at the
end of a meal. It is better to mix some roasted cumin seeds and a little
rock salt or common salt in this.
6.Drinking plain soda water gives immediate relief
with symptoms like wind, distended
stomach and
acidity.
7.Eating about three grams of anise seeds increases
digestion.
8.Take a tea spoon of fresh ginger juice mixed in
50ml. warm water two or three times a day.
A tea
spoonful of lemon juice and a pinch of common salt can be added to make it more
effective.
9. A paste or powder of one gram garlic mixed in
50ml of warm water can be taken twice a
day. (You can
skip this one as Vaisnavas don't use garlic).
DIET AND REGIMEN:
A light and easily digestible diet is advised for a
patient suffering from
indigestion. The patient should take plenty of
boiled vegetables, fruits, fruit juices and lemon juice. Fresh and cooked food
should be taken. Cooking with spices like cumin, coriander, turmeric, fresh
ginger, black pepper, asafetida etc. is beneficial. A meal should not be taken
until the previous meal has been digested.
A difference of four hours is advised between two
meals. Food should be taken in pleasant and peaceful surroundings. It is good
to eat seasonal fruits and vegetables. Do not eat while moving or traveling in
a car, watching television or reading. Do not eat fast food or food that has
been micro waved. Foods should not be contradicting one another, like milk and
yogurt, or hot coffee and ice cream.
Eating should not be too fast or too slow and the
food should be properly chewed. Choose your diet according to your
constitution. It is better not to reheat the food. The kitchen should be neat
and clean and the cook should be healthy both mentally as well as physically.
The dinner should include light preparation like vegetable soups, sprouts,
boiled vegetables. Sleeping during day time specially after lunch is prohibited
as it increases Kapha and produces indigestion. The patient should not stay
awake late in the night. He should be free from mental stress, anxiety, fear
and grief. Physical exercise according to the strength is beneficial. The best
is a morning walk everyday.

14. Stay
healthy while in India.
Srila Prabhupada was very particular about devotees
maintaining good health. Many times he used suggest diets and precautions to be
taken to avoid sickness. So it is our duty to take care of our health, so that
we can work more efficiently in the Sankirtan movement which was started by
Srila Prabhupada.
By the mercy of Srimati Radharani, I have been
helping devotees in Vrindavana for last six years. For all these years I used
to organise a regular clinic in the ISKCON Gurukula on every Sunday. Lot of you
might have seen me there, specially during the festivals (Kartik and Gaur
Purnima) when I stayed longer to help the devotees, so that they could stay
healthy and enjoy the spiritual mood in the Holy Dham. As my engagements have
increased over the years, I am not able to visit Vrindavan so regularly. As the
festival is approaching, many of you might be ready to leave for the annaul
spiritual event. Unfortunately I may not be able to make to the Vrindavan
festival this year as I will be busy giving some important seminars organised
by the Government of India (Health Ministry) during the same time. I will still
try to find time and come over as helping the devotees of Krsna is the biggest
service I can perform in this life.
During all years of working with the devotees, I
analyzed some points, which I
feel, are the causes of problems that devotees face
while they are in
Vrindavana, specially during festivals. I would like
to share these points with all of you who are coming to Vridavana festival.
COMMON PROBLEMS:
Stomach disorders like diarrhea and dysentary,
stomach ache, vomitting etc. are some the most common problems. The most common
reason for getting sick in Vrindavan is the water, which is heavy and is
difficult to digest. Although many devotees use the bottle water, the water
used for cooking or making lemon juice, lassi etc. is the regular water.
Another important factor is the changing weather during Gaura Purnima festival.
It is generally the spring season and the climate starts getting warmer but its
still cool in the evening, late night and early morning (mangala arti time).
The climate seems quite pleasant but if proper care is not taken, devotees can
catch cold, cough and flu very easily. According to Ayurveda, there is a
natural aggravation Kapha dosha during the spring season, which is also
responsible for problems relating to mucus, cough, cold and flu etc. Another
reason of catching these common problems is the week immunity of the body, as
devotees have already exerted a lot in the Mayapur festi l. Improper eating and
over eating is another major cause. The prasadam is so nice that one can not
control the tongue. Mosquitoes are also another cause sometimes, although the
frequency of occurrence of malaria has decreased during last couple of years.
HOW TO AVOID SICKNESS:
As the reasons are already listed above, if simple
precautions are taken, one can stay in good health and enjoy the devotional
mood of Sri Vrindavana Dharma. Here are some precautions which can be followed
and thus the sickness can be avoided.
1. Eat according to your digestion power/fire
(Jatharagni). It's always best to eat less and according to your Ayurvedic
constitution.
2. Don't eat too many fried, oily, greasy and heavy
foods at one time.
3. Avoid eating too many sweets at one time. Taking
a small amount at each meal is OK.
4. It's always good to take some Ayurvedic digestive
powder, even if you are healthy. Lying down on your left side for about 20
minutes, after meals, also helps to digest the food easily.
5. Its nice to take a teaspoon of Chyawan Prasha
everday, to keep your immunity strong and thus avoid small problems. Taking a
teaspoonful of honey is also equally beneficial.
6. Be careful with drinking water. Its nice to boil
the water before drinking it.
7. While on parikrama, it's nice to avoid direct
exposure to the sun and heat.Use a cloth or hat to cover your head.
8. On returning from parikrama, one should take rest
for a while to regain the energy. It's nice to put your feet in warm water with
salt.
9. Wear warm clothes during night, early morning and
evening. Make sure that the head and the feet are kept warm by using woolen cap
and socks.
10. Don't delay in taking medicines. You can stop
the disease easily while it is in the initial stage, otherwise it will become
difficult to overcome. So consult the doctor as soon as you feel uneasy or
abnormal in any of your systems.
11. Try to help the sick devotees so that they don't
feel insecure, anxious or depressed. Even encouraging them would help. I have
seen many times devotees feel that there is no one to help them and that makes
them more sick.
12. Maintain proper cleanliness and hygiene in your
rooms, clothes, eating etc.
13. Don't use too much fan during the night. As
mentioned earlier, it might be pleasant to use the fan due to the spring
climate but it can cause trouble.
14.If possible, use a mosquito net or some mosquito
repellent to avoid mosquito bites. Eating some Neem leaves or Neem tables also
helps.
15. Maintain a regular daily routine specially for
eating, sleeping and waking
up.
I hope these points will help you maintain a good
health and avoid sickness.
